The citizens of Sleepyside are divided by the proposed expansion of the International Pine Company into the game preserve and two newcomers to town are adding fuel to the fire. One of them is Mr. Maypenny's long lost nephew; the second is a social activist who wants to stop the expansion. The girls are determined to solve the mystery and restore harmony to their community.
